GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs routine professional and technical work for the Office of the Attorney General (OAG) Child Support Information Technology Division. Work involves the implementation, maintenance, and monitoring of all desktops, laptops, printers, and other devices in a Local Area Network (LAN) for field offices in the Houston metro area (Region 6). ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs hardware and software installations, configuration, maintenance, testing, and troubleshooting of network devices such as PCs, laptops, printers, scanners and servers in assigned field offices or over the telephone; provides technical assistance for Child Support staff to support connectivity with Access Points or Air Cards
Performs network administration, system maintenance, workstation support, internet connectivity, and backup support and restores support of these systems
Answers and documents Help Desk calls and provides technical troubleshooting and resolutions for users statewide on PC’s, laptops, printers, scanners, software, network connections, computer peripherals, IP phones/smart phones; addresses any computer-related issues
Supports and conducts special projects; monitors and completes upgrades, network deployments, printer replacements, Child Support System enhancements, imaging, server, PC, and network contracts
Provides training, support, and operational assistance to network users; maintains hardware and software security controls with administrative rights on PCs
Performs related work as assigned
Maintains relevant knowledge necessary to perform essential job functions
Attends work regularly in compliance with agreed-upon work schedule
Ensures security and confidentiality of sensitive and/or protected information
Complies with all agency policies and procedures, including those pertaining to ethics and integrity

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Graduation from high school or equivalent
Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; experience in the following (or closely related) fields may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis: file server and/or network support, information technology customer support, troubleshooting and/or support on PCs and printers, or Wide Area Network/Local Area Network installation and/or support
Experience: Three years of full-time experience working in the following (or closely related) fields: file server and/or network support, information technology customer support, troubleshooting and/or support on PCs and printers, or Wide Area Network/Local Area Network installation and/or support
Experience providing technical instructions and managing special projects
Knowledge of Microsoft Office spreadsheets, word processing, and databases
Knowledge of operating systems, file servers, personal computer components, and microcomputer terminology
Knowledge of Windows server environments
Knowledge of Windows 7, 8, and 10
Skill in using a computer for word-processing and data entry/retrieval.
Skill in handling multiple tasks, prioritizing, and meeting deadlines
Skill in effective oral and written communication
Skill in exercising sound judgment and effective decision making
Ability to maintain security controls for assigned office(s)
Ability to work in a team environment and independently
Ability to learn new technologies and concepts quickly
Ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver’s license
Ability to lift and relocate 50 pounds
Ability to climb on and work from a ladder to pull cable as necessary
Ability to receive and respond positively to constructive feedback
Ability to provide excellent customer service
Ability to arrange for personal transportation for business-related travel
Ability to work Monday – Friday; 8:00am – 5:00pm
Ability to provide on-call support, 24 hours per day/7 days per week, during emergency situations
Ability to work more than 40 hours as needed and in compliance with the FLSA
Ability to travel (including overnight travel) up to 50%

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Experience: Network Specialist I
Experience: Installing, administering and maintaining networks
Experience: BMC Remedy or similar ticketing system
