The Financial Accountant performs complex (senior-level) professional financial accounting work.  Work involves preparing financial statements and reports including preparation of the TRS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation between the general ledger and supporting subsidiary ledgers, assisting with IRS tax process, Governmental Accounting Standards Board statement research, and ensuring and overseeing compliance with reporting guidelines. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for initiative and independent judgment within the limits of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  This position reports to the Director of Accounting and Reporting.
 
The Senior Financial Accountant performs highly advanced (senior-level) professional financial and accounting work.  Work involves preparing financial statements and reports including preparation of the TRS Annual Comprehensive Financial Report (ACFR), ensuring timely and accurate reconciliation between the general ledger and supporting subsidiary ledgers, assisting with IRS tax process, Governmental Accounting Standards Board statement research, and ensuring and overseeing compliance with reporting guidelines.  Provides training and technical assistance to department and agency staff.  Works under minimal supervision with extensive latitude for initiative and independent judgment within the limits of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).  This position reports to the Director of Accounting and Reporting.
 
This position is posted at two levels.  Selected applicant will be offered classification and salary that align with experience and education:
 
State Classifications:
Financial Accountant: 1020/Accountant V/B21
Sr. Financial Accountant: 1024/Accountant VII/B25

WHAT YOU WILL BRING:

Education:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in accounting, finance, or a related business field, with 21 hours or more of accounting coursework.
 
Experience:
• Financial Accountant – Five (5) years of full-time accounting, financial statement preparation, financial analysis, or related experience requiring compilation, reconciliation, and/or analysis of detailed financial information.
• Sr. Financial Accountant – Seven (7) years of full-time accounting, financial statement preparation, financial analysis, or related experience requiring compilation, reconciliation, and/or analysis of detailed financial information.
