Performs highly complex (senior-level) legal assistant work. Work involves coordinating legal activities; researching, analyzing, investigating, and drafting legal documents; and assisting attorneys with case management. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Veterans, Reservist or Guardsman with an MOS or additional duties that fall in the fields of Army – 27 Paralegal; Navy – administration; Coast Guard – no military equivalent; Marines – 44 Legal Support; Air Force – 5J Professional-Paralegal or other related fields pertaining to the minimum experience requirement may meet the minimum qualifications for this position.
Provides administrative and technical assistance to Deputy General Counsel, Office of General Counsel Directors and staff. May assist in the development of administrative or technical assistance policies and procedures.
Coordinates e-discovery, including oversight of e-Discovery software, coding documents, and case management. Drafts e-discovery responses and objections in assigned cases.
Provides consultative services, training and technical assistance for attorneys and legal staff relating to e-Discovery litigation software and the agency’s electronic document management system.
Develops and implements effective techniques for evaluating and converting legal documents to electronic media for storage and retrieval including, but not limited to, the agency’s e-Discovery software or electronic document management software, all agency contracts and litigation files.
Collects, formats, organizes, codes, indexes, and catalogs legal documents within the agency’s electronic document management system for search ability, analysis and retrieval.
Prepares, reviews, and edits correspondence, reports, forms and other documents.
Obtains supporting documentation, assembles exhibits, affidavits and other legal documents for filings, responses, and other related litigations matters. Gathers and analyzes research data, such as statues, decisions, and legal articles, codes, and documents.
Assists in the preparation of legal discovery, including the compiling of information and documents for interrogatories, requests for production, disclosure and other discovery requests; analysis of e-discovery litigation support software and electronic document management to develop action plans for the improvement of electronic storage of legal documents and files; with maintenance of law library materials and subscriptions; in the development of e-Discovery litigation support and data management policies and procedures; and with the drafting and preparation of Certificates of Facts and Land Classifications.
Assists with coordinating travel arrangements for OGC attorneys as needed.
