The Texas General Land Office primarily serves the schoolchildren, veterans, and the environment of Texas. The agency does so
by preserving our history, maximizing state revenue through innovative administration, and through the prudent stewardship of
state lands and natural resources. This position is with our CDR Monitoring and Quality Assurance program area.
Inspector III - Performs complex (journey-level) inspection work. Work involves conducting inspections and quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and agency policies. May provide guidance to others. Works under general supervision, with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Inspector IV - Performs highly complex (senior-level) inspection work. Work involves coordinating and conducting inspections and quality assurance reviews to ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and agency policies. May supervise the work of others. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
The Community Development and Revitalization division is essential in furthering the Texas General Land Office mission to help Texans rebuild and recovery from disasters. This position has the responsibility for helping CDR ensure that all construction projects are compliant with all applicable standards and regulations, are completed in a timely and cost-effective manner, and are of the highest quality.

Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from a standard senior high school or equivalent and at least two (2) years experience in either:
The inspection of existing building facilities, facility maintenance and/or construction;
Working to in the field of compliance with Federal ADA rules, local & state building codes; or
Working with the State of Texas on procurement, contracts and work orders.
Any combination of these experience areas is acceptable.
Preferred Qualifications
College degree in related field (project management, construction, business analysis, etc.)
Construction experience
Project management experience
Contract management experience
Vendor oversight/interaction
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of laws, codes, standards, and regulations related to the area of responsibility;
Knowledge of principles and methods of field inspection and quality control; the basic rules of evidence; and business practices in regulated occupations and industries.
Skill in conducting inspections, using applicable computer programs and databases, and maintaining records and written reports.
Physical Requirements
This position requires the employee to primarily perform non-sedentary work; mobility (moving around the work-site) is routinely required to carry out some duties including extensive moving upon and traveling across uneven surfaces, rough terrain and/or desolate areas; normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall, and apply certain practices and policies; marginal or corrected visual and auditory requirements; constant use of personal computers, copiers, printers, and telephones; the ability to move about the office to access file cabinets and office machinery; requires the stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions; ability to move and transport records, documents, boxes and all related information, materials and tools, weighing up to 50 pounds; frequent sitting and/or remaining in a stationary position; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, reach and/or steer a boat as needed; the ability to work outside and adapt to adverse weather conditions to include sea, sky and land evironments; the ability to work under deadlines, as a team member, and in direct contact with others; and the ability to remain stationary for long periods of time when commuting to and from assigned destination and when traveling on state business including field work and training assignments.
