Work involves receiving and reviewing license and permit applications; ensuring compliance with applicable policies, administrative codes, and statutes; communicating with external and internal customers; and approving license and permit applications.   Works under the general supervision of the Licensing Director with moderate latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment within the limits of the agency’s policies and procedures.   Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Monitors Continuing Education requirements for license and registration renewals for compliance with program policies, administrative codes, and statutes; and recommends corrective action, as needed.
  • Receives and reviews license applications for Pharmacist Preceptor Certifications and inputs application data into the licensing system.
  • Receives and reviews applications for Notification Pharmacist Name Changes and Address Changes and inputs application data into the licensing system.
  • Provides administrative and technical support related to licensing requirements to the general public; answers questions and explains license regulations; and supplies information regarding licensing processing, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares notices, correspondence, memos, and reports relating to the licensing program within established deadlines. Work may include:
    • Notifying and corresponding with licensees of application deficiencies,
    • Assisting with the preparation and mailing of Pharmacist Wall Certificates, and
    • Assisting with the coordination of emailing monthly renewal notifications to Pharmacists.
  • Evaluates and tracks application and responses to notices of deficiencies.
  • Provides backup to the Pharmacist Renewal Specialist.
  • Maintain files in an easily retrievable manner and prepare records for imaging, storage and/or destruction in accordance with the Agency Record Retention Plan.
  • Recommends activities to produce a more effective program. Develops policies and procedures as required.
  • Complies with all agency personnel policies, including regular attendance. May supervise or assist in the implementation of special projects.
  • Performs related work as assigned, including job duties provided in the SAO job description.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Knowledge of laws and rules governing the licensing and registration of pharmacists, pharmacist interns, and pharmacy technicians; agency policies and procedures; the practice of general pharmacy operations; and basic customer service principles and techniques. Skill in the use of standard office equipment, computers, and computer software, including Microsoft Word and Excel; and reviewing documents for accuracy and completeness. Ability to respond to public inquiries in a timely manner; to implement administrative and technical procedures; to interpret applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures; and to communicate effectively by demonstrating knowledge of business English, including terminology, spelling, and grammar. Education and Experience Requirements:                                                                                                                    
  • Customer service or administrative experience, preferably in a health-related professional field.
  • Experience in a pharmacy licensed by Texas is preferred.
  • Experience in regulatory work is desirable.
  • Graduation from a two-year college or equivalent is preferred. Experience and education may be substituted for one another.
License Required: None. Texas Pharmacy Technician Registration is preferred. If registered as a pharmacy technician, must possess a current registration certificate and be in good standing with the Texas State Board of Pharmacy. Environment/Physical Conditions Normal office environment. Tobacco-free workplace. Sitting and operating a personal computer for long periods of time. Correctly lift up to 25 pounds. Physical conditions will require a person with sufficient stamina to maintain a constant high level of concentration, frequently intense with many interruptions, for long periods of time.
