JOB SUMMARY:
This role reports to the Network Operations Manager and works closely with the Building Automation and Risk Management business units. Performs senior-level network work. Work involves leading activities associated with local and wide area networks, Internet and intranet systems, and other data networks; enhancing, troubleshooting and supporting data telecommunications networks, designing, installing, and monitoring networks; monitoring and analyzing existing network hardware and network management software; developing policies and procedures; preparing budget recommendations; and evaluating potential network enhancements.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Creates switch configurations and develops templates to ensure continuity of operations
- Troubleshoots multiple types of connections to include physical and logical Fiber and Copper connections
- Monitors overall Network health and identifies areas of needed change and makes recommendations to improve operations
- Makes recommendations to the Network Manager on campus network enhancements
- Manages specific deliverables for new building turnups
- Responds to network outages, incidents and manages problem calls and service requests.
- Monitors data usage, trends and network usage and makes recommendations for improvements
- Oversees performance tuning and assist in capacity planning activities to enhance the performance of information systems and network resources.
- Submits change management requests for approval and develops test, implementation and backup out plans for new changes
- Provides technical advice and assistance to business units and management to support new TFC technology solutions.
- Assists in defining the Agency’s disaster recovery responsibilities and procedures.
- Performs related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with major course work in computer science, computer information systems, MIS, or a related Work experience may be substituted in lieu of education requirement.
- Five (5) years’ experience in network management and systems administration, including three (3) years supervisory or lead worker experience.
- Experience with Network topologies, configurations, and network management software
- Experience in local, campus and wide area
- Education and experience may be substituted for one
REGISTRATION, CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE:
- Cisco certification preferred.
- Palo Alto certification preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Responds and solves simple to complex network problems
- Working knowledge of local and wide area network management and configuration administration
- Working knowledge of Cisco firewalls, routers, switches, IDS/IPS, XDR, EDR
- Working knowledge of Help Desk operations, remote support tools (e.g. Bomgar, SolarWinds)
- Working knowledge of MS Windows 8.x, Server 2008/2012, 2019, Active Directory
- Working knowledge of Office 365 Enterprise
- Working knowledge of telecommunications and VOIP networking
- Working knowledge of networking technology, including DNS, DHCP, IP addressing, SMTP mail, FTP, and advanced routing concepts in a VM environment.
- Working knowledge of Texas State Data Center Services policies and procedures preferred
- Ability to be self-motivated dedicated and committed to public
- Ability to serve as team lead and to train, plan and manage the work of
- Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR WORKING CONDITIONS:
This position functions in a standard office environment. Must be able to lift 40 pounds. There are no unusual dangers involved.
