This position is a member of our Water Quality Planning Division.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
As a part of the division’s Water Quality Planning team, our Hydrologist III will play a key role in achieving TCEQ’s mission. You would use your skills and experience to:
- Conduct highly complex watershed assessment and related functions in support of the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) Program for the Water Quality Planning Division of the TCEQ.
- Coordinate activities and project management functions of the TMDL program to include developing work plans and scopes of work; track project schedules and budgets; and review and approve project deliverables such as technical support documents, TMDLs, and quality assurance project plans, to ensure satisfactory completion of projects and contracts.
- Review the acquisition, analysis and assessment of water quality, biologic, hydrologic, and watershed information and data for use in water resource management; and produce technical reports. Oversee the work of less experienced staff.
- Complete hydrologic data analysis and statistical procedures in accordance with agency rules, guidelines, policies, and procedures. Assess the feasibility and soundness of hydrologic and surface water quality models. Research new hydrologic modeling techniques for addressing water quality issues such as nutrients and dissolved oxygen.
- Represent the agency at public meetings. Interact with local, state, and federal agencies, the regulated community and the public regarding TMDL projects.
- Communicate highly technical information to management and others.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or natural or physical science from an accredited college or university, plus four years of full-time experience performing hydrologic work of similar character, scope, and complexity in the areas listed in examples of work performed.
OR
- A master’s degree in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or a natural or physical science from an accredited college or university, plus three years of the full-time experience.
OR
- A doctorate in hydrology, engineering, geology, mathematics, or a natural or physical science from an accredited college or university, plus two years of the full-time experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience analyzing and interpreting chemical, biological, hydrologic, geospatial and other water quality and/or watershed-related data.
- Experience with computer simulations of surface water flow and water quality.
- Experience with project management, managing multiple priorities, and/or in the review of deliverables.
