If so, the TxDOT Financial Management Division is looking for an Accounting Specialist III for our Employee Travel and Payroll team based in Austin, TX. Our Finance division +200 employees strong and supports all of TxDOT’s districts and division to promote fiscal responsibility, timely reports, compliant processes and accurate payments and distributions. The Employee Payments Branch of the Financial Management Division is seeking one Accounting Specialist III. The Employee Payments branch includes two teams: Employee Travel and Employee Payroll. The Accounting Specialist III will audit travel expense reports for travelers, review related reports, provide guidance to travel coordinators and travelers on travel topics, cross training in the reconciliation of the DART card program, the Central Billing Account for Airfare and the Car rental reconciliation. Other duties including working with the team to present quarterly travel meetings to travel coordinators, as well as other opportunities to provide travel guidance for other department meetings.
Minimum Salary: 54,000.00 Maximum Salary: 61,399.00 Pay Basis: Yearly

Position Description
Performs various accounting related activities for the Travel Aid and Payment section of the Financial Management division at the Stassney location. This position works with the travel module of Peoplesoft to audit employee travel expenses, review related reports and participate in travel meetings to provide guidance on travel related matters to travel coordinators and travelers. Work requires contact with governmental agencies. Employees at this level perform work independently on travel assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.
Essential Duties:
Answer inquires from travel vendors, contractors or other out of agency personnel regarding departmental financial transactions.
Communicate with Travelers, Travel coordinators and other department staff to clarify information related to travel and/or resolve discrepancies in required travel documentation.
Audits, reconciles, processes, reports and provide guidance on complex travel related activities.
Communicates Department travel policies and procedures to district/division travel coordinators and travelers and provides guidance.
Examines travel documents for accuracy, completeness and compliance with departmental and state rules, regulations and agreements.
Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business-related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 2 years accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, auditing experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part time equivalent).
Competencies:
Extensive knowledge of –
Auditing and investigative methods, practices and procedures related to state travel documents
Generally accepted accounting principles, procedures and terminology
Applicable State of Texas laws, rules, and regulations related to employee travel
Considerable knowledge of –
PeopleSoft or other ERP accounting system
Account Reconciliations and Accounts Payable
Researching, analyzing and interpreting travel policies and state and federal laws and regulations specific to State of Texas employee travel.
Proficient skill in –
Excel, Word, Powerpoint
Maintaining effective working relationships with others
Other –
Exercises logic and reasoning to define problems, establish facts and draw valid conclusions to travel matters; makes decisions that support business objectives and goals.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
Sedentary work; Lift up to 10lbs at a time and occasionally carry files/small tools
Repetitive motion-substantial movements of wrists, hands and/or fingers
Close visual acuity-work includes data/figures; view a computer screen; extensive reading
