Position Description
Oversees and performs various responsible accounting related activities. Work requires contact with governmental agencies. Employees at this level establish their own work plan and priorities to meet set objectives. Issues are rarely referred to the supervisor but are handled at the occurrence.
Essential Duties:
- Assists in developing, implementing and interpreting accounting related policies and procedures.
- Routinely handles complex accounting-related projects; researches and resolves complex accounting situations.
- Answers inquiries from vendors, contractors or other out-of-agency personnel regarding departmental financial transactions
- Communicates Department payroll and payments policies and procedures to district or division personnel and/or provides training.
- Communicates with Department staff to clarify information and/or to resolve discrepancies in required documentation.
- Examines accounting source documents for accuracy, completeness and compliance with departmental and state rules, regulations, and agreements.
- May serve as a lead worker and the related tasks.
- Oversees a variety of accounting activities.
- Prepares written correspondence and reports; maintains files, logs, activity books, tables, coding manuals or automated databases associated with accounting processes and activities.
- Processes or audits various departmental vouchers, invoices or deposits for purchases or contracted services; prepares vouchers authorizing payments and processes for distribution.
- Represents the district or division on ad hoc committees related to accounting activities.
- Performs special projects and other job responsibilities as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Business-related discipline. Relevant experience may be substituted for education on a year per year basis. Substitutions for Minimum Qualifications
Experience: 5 years accounting, bookkeeping, payroll, auditing experience. (Experience can be satisfied by fulltime or prorated part time equivalent).

- Applicable laws, rules, and regulations
