These are onsite positions with potential to telework 2 days a week after 6 months.
One full time and one part time position
Accountant I – $3395 – $3603
JOB SUMMARY
Performs entry-level bookkeeping/accounting work. Work involves, but is not limited to, processing cash receipts for daily deposit into the State of Texas Treasury Department, processing agency invoices, receiving reports, encumbrances, payment vouchers, and other documents in preparation of payment for agency goods and services. Coordinates with internal purchasing staff, divisional purchasing liaisons, and external vendors to resolve disputed invoices. May also include working with Federal Fund requests and distribution. This position works under close supervision, using specific procedures and guidelines to complete work assignments, with minimal latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Reconcile monthly recurring invoices, receiving reports and other related documents to purchase order; create and enter payment vouchers
Collects, processes, and records, revenue for deposit; create and enter journal vouchers to correct defaulted deposits.
Process mail and other incoming documents daily.
Researches and resolves invoice discrepancies.
Reconcile cash box and bill exchanger monthly.
Assist with creating and entering expenditure transfer documents.
Create and maintain vendor information.
Perform encumbrance research and maintain encumbrance data.
Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures including safety and standards of conduct.
Perform other duties as assigned.
NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Serves as backup to other department Accountants.
Accountant II – $3581 – $3801
JOB SUMMARY
Performs routine journey-level bookkeeping/accounting work. Work involves, but is not limited to, processing cash receipts for daily deposit into the State of Texas Treasury Department, processing agency invoices, receiving reports, encumbrances, payment vouchers, and other documents in preparation of payment for agency goods and services. This position works under moderate supervision, using specific procedures and guidelines to complete work assignments, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.

JOB SUMMARY
Performs moderately complex journey-level bookkeeping/accounting work. Work involves, but is not limited to, processing cash receipts for daily deposit into the State of Texas Treasury Department, processing agency invoices, receiving reports, encumbrances, payment vouchers, and other documents in preparation of payment for agency goods and services. Coordinates with internal purchasing staff, divisional purchasing liaisons, and external vendors to resolve disputed invoices. May also include working with Federal Fund requests and distribution. This position works under general supervision, using specific procedures and guidelines to complete work assignments, with limited latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. May serve as Lead for other Accountants.

Create and enter expenditure transfer documents
Perform encumbrance research and maintain encumbrance data
Create and maintain vendor information
May assist with/trains new Accountants in processing purchase vouchers and preparing deposits Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures including safety and standards of conduct.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Serves as backup to other department Accountants.

Graduation from high school/GED
One year bookkeeping/accounting work experience
Experience reconciling receipts, invoices, and processing payments.
Experience using a personal computer and related office equipment.
Experience using spreadsheets on a personal computer.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Ability to work accurately with numerical data.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to plan and manage own work.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships and have a customer-service orientation.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
Experience with financial documents, including invoices, purchase orders, receipts, bank and credit card statements and related documents.
Experience reconciling and compiling deposits.
Experience using Microsoft Office Suite software.
State of Texas Uniform Statewide Accounting System (USAS) experience.
State of Texas Centralized Accounting and Payroll/Personnel System (CAPPS) Financial experience.
Experience using a database accounting system.
Experience with records retention.
State experience processing Federal Funds.
Knowledge of State financial laws and processes.

15 hours college coursework in Accounting, Finance, or related field. OR Graduation from high school/GED with one year accounting work experience.

One year bookkeeping/accounting work experience reconciling receipts, invoices and processing payments
One year bookkeeping/accounting work experience using a personal computer and related office equipment.
One year bookkeeping/accounting work experience using spreadsheets on a personal computer.
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles.
Ability to work accurately with numerical data.
Ability to follow written and oral instructions.
Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Ability to plan and manage own work.
