Job Summary
Performs advanced (senior-level) consultative services, technical assistance, and training in digital literacy and library technologies. This position takes a leadership role in ensuring Texas libraries are knowledgeable about and have resources to implement digital literacy programs and technologies that meet the needs of their communities. As a member of the Library Digital Opportunity (LDO) team, also serves as the project lead for major internal, statewide, and national initiatives and projects relating to digital literacy programs and technology in libraries that support library capacity. Coordinates project goals with other division/agency programs. Works under limited supervision, with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment.
Essential Tasks
Consults with and provides assistance and training on digital literacy and library technologies.
Manage digital literacy and library technology support contracts and grants related to LDO program goals.
Assist libraries in their own efforts to close the digital divide in their communities.
Creates content for agency blog, website, and other agency publications.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Attend work regularly in accordance with agency leave and attendance policies.
Comply with all applicable agency policies and procedures, including safety and standards of conduct.
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university. Experience as described below may substitute for degree on a year for year basis (max 4 years) plus:
Three years experience working in a library or collaborating with library staff to support and implement library digital literacy and/or technology programs.
Experience in design and delivery of training.
Experience planning and/or delivering services to clients.
Experience using standard office software applications
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in library or information science from an accredited program.
Experience managing library technology projects.
Experience writing technical evaluations, procurement documents or planning documents.
Experience in the area(s) of community engagement and/or outreach.
Experience as a professional librarian.
Experience working in or with multiple types of libraries or library consortia.
Bilingual – Spanish
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of library technology issues and trends, including issues relating to public access computing and telecommunications.
Ability to analyze data, to formulate conclusions, to develop guidelines, and to write reports.
Ability to work well with individuals, groups, and other consultants.
Ability to speak before groups.
Ability to take initiative in areas of responsibility as part of statewide library development team.
Environmental/Physical Conditions
Normal office work environment and may have exposure to dust and environmental allergens consistent with normal business activities and human contact. Mostly sedentary in nature but may involve moving; standing; pulling and pushing kneeling, stooping, and bending; performing tasks requiring fine motor skill and coordination to safely move items weighing up to 20 pounds. Must be able to work extended periods at a computer. May require working extended hours and some evenings and weekends as needed. Normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain practices and policies and interpret data. Travel 5%, some overnight, will be required to conduct training, speak publicly, and attend meetings.
