Research Specialist– Austin, Texas

The Office of the Governor is looking for a Research Specialists (Research Specialist IV) to work in the Texas Advanced Nuclear Energy Office (TANEO).

What You’ll Earn

The salary is $6,250.00 – $7,500.00 a month ($75,000.00 – $90,000.00 a year).

What You’ll Do

This position performs highly complex (senior-level) research work. Work involves planning, coordinating, and conducting economic regulatory studies and analyses; determining and evaluating research and economic factors related to TANEO programs and applicant projects; and disseminating the collection of information pertinent to those analyses to provide information and assistance to staff and other entities.

  • Remains well-informed of the advanced nuclear energy industry, regulatory changes, TANEO programs and deliverables, and OOG initiatives, policies, procedures, operations, news releases, web content, programs, and statewide trends.
  • Plans for the development, implementation, and monitoring of research projects related to the TANEO reports and programs as assigned.
  • Determines the scope and methodologies of research projects and areas to be evaluated.
  • Develops policies and procedures used in conducting and administering research, demonstration, and evaluation activities.
  • Develops quality assurance procedures and conducts quality assurance reviews on research projects.
  • Consults and provides technical advice on research methods and techniques.
  • Researches, analyzes, and reports on state and national nuclear energy industry economics, trends, and regulatory changes.
  • Implements and maintains quality standards and procedures for data gathering, analysis, writing, editing, and presentations.
  • Researches and assesses entities applying for TANEO grant programs to report findings and recommendations to TANEO leadership.
  • Recommends and implements improvements to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of TANEO programs and responsibilities established by House Bill 14, 89th Legislature.
  • Maintains familiarity with current federal and state government resources (e.g., U.S. Department of Energy, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, US national labs, Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, Department of State Health Services), business resources, journals, newspapers, magazines, aggregators, and selected newswires/listservs.
  • Keeps current on Texas and industry economic trends (e.g., employment, occupational, industrial, transportation, business climate, and international trade) with particular emphasis on the advanced nuclear energy industry or associated supply chain and manufacturing industries.
  • Stays abreast of corporate, national, and international activities impacting the Texas economy and the advanced nuclear energy industry.
  • Prepares and conducts presentations to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Supports TANEO and OOG teams with research assistance.
  • Prepares briefing materials, as requested.

How You’ll Qualify

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in research and/or economic analysis.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

You’re a Great Fit with

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in business or public administration, economics, political science, statistical analysis, research methodology, or a related field;
  • Knowledge of the advanced nuclear energy industry or associated supply chain and manufacturing industries; and
  • Experience with nuclear permitting and licensing processes through DOE, NRC, and applicable Texas agencies.
