Accounts Receivable Accountant – Austin, Texas

The Office of the Governor is looking for an Accounts Receivable Accountant (Accountant IV) to work in the Financial Services Division.

What You’ll Earn

The salary is $5,000.00 – $5,666.67 a month, ($60,000.00 – $68,000.04 a year).

What You’ll Do

This position performs complex (journey-level) accounting work, which includes making transaction entries in multiple accounting systems, preparing reconciliations and work papers supporting the financial statements. Interacts with staff, governmental agencies, and the public. Develops professional working relationships with internal and external customers.

  • Supports all accounting functions performed within the Financial Services Division.
  • Prepares and audits OOG payment vouchers.
  • Audits and processes Events Trust Fund and Governor’s University Research Initiative payment requests.
  • Codes and prepares entries for receipt of funds in the State accounting system and the agency’s internal systems.
  • Prepares entries for the reclassification of principal payments on loans to maintain customer balances in the internal system.
  • Prepares agency-billing invoices. Maintains accounts receivable open file, monitors for delinquent billings, and invoices for overdue payments per agency policy.
  • Gathers and maintains relevant daily and weekly bank rates.
  • Reviews loan interest calculations to account for interest rate changes.
  • Reviews daily reports to identify and prepare entries that need to be entered in agency’s internal system.
  • Prepares and enters assigned entries into the appropriate accounting systems.
  • Maintains files and stores accounting records in accordance with the state records retention rules.
  • Assists in preparation of Annual Financial Report (AFR), including preparation and review of journal entries and review of notes to the financial statements.
  • Assists in the compilation of financial reports.
  • Serves as back-up to other Accountants as necessary.
  • Provides administrative support to the Director of Financial Services as needed.
  • May prepare non-profit organizations’ payments on a timely basis; may receive bills, obtain authorization to pay, and maintain check registers.

How You’ll Qualify

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Four (4) years of experience in accounting and financial operations.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis. Certification as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) will substitute for two (2) years of experience.

Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in financial management, human resources, public or business administration or a related field.
