Help Desk and Technical Support Specialist – Austin, Texas

The Office of the Governor is looking for a Help Desk and Technical Support Specialist (Program Specialist IV) to work within the Public Safety Office.

The salary is $5,000.00 – $5,200.000 a month ($60,000.00- $62,400.00 a year).

What You’ll Do

This position performs highly complex (senior-level) consultative services and technical assistance work. Work involves providing user support for the PSO’s online grant management system (eGrants) and coordinating internal administrative support work.  Provides consultative services and technical assistance to program staff, governmental agencies, community organizations, and the general public.

  • Provides technical support for both agency employees and other end users to ensure that problems and requests are appropriately documented and resolved timely.
  • Identifies problem areas and delivers solutions to enhance quality of service and prevent future problems.
  • Provides customer service and answers user inquiries regarding computer software, hardware operation, and the use and interface of systems and software applications.
  • Provides routine grant administration support services within the PSO’s online grant management system (eGrants) including creating online application kits and activating grant awards.
  • Manages user accounts within the eGrants system while ensuring that necessary security controls over software are maintained.
  • Generates routine technical reports and assists with creating special reports.
  • Prepares and distributes routine notices to users regarding their account and/or grant application/award.
  • Communicates effectively with city and county leaders; state agency executives; and other professionals regarding the eGrants system.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves complex computer-related problems.
  • Maintains documentation related to technical updates made to the eGrants online grant management system.
  • Advises users and analyzes user requirements concerning software and the efficient use of information technology systems.
  • Maintains records of daily data communication transactions, problems, and actions taken.
  • Ensures that necessary security controls over software are maintained.
  • Monitors the PSO email accounts and generates responses to inquiries.
  • Coordinates general office duties such as answering phones, routing incoming calls/emails, taking messages, greeting visitors, and mail distribution.
  • Generates and analyzes grant-related data using Excel and Access databases.
  • Serves as primary point of contact for PSO travel and purchasing processes.
  • Analyzes program policies and procedures to determine their effect on the business operations of the division.
  • Recommends and coordinates activities to produce a more effective program.
  • Assists with records management and retention efforts.

How You’ll Qualify

  • High school graduate or equivalent; and
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in computer systems and customer service support.

Note: Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.

You’re a Great Fit with

  • Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university;
  • Experience working with the PSO’s eGrants on-line grant management system; and
  • Experience working with the state’s Centralized Accounting Payroll/Personnel system (CAPPS) Financials.
