ATTORNEY I (posting #15-26) – Austin
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Attorney I will work in the Austin Office of the Enforcement Division of the Texas State Securities Board. The Enforcement Division is charged with detection and prevention of violations of the Securities Act, including fraud committed in connection with the sale of securities, illegal sales of unregistered securities, and sales of securities by unregistered dealers. The employee will investigate investment schemes for violations of the Securities Act by identifying and securing evidence from various sources, including social media platforms, internet websites and other online media. The employee will also analyze voluminous records, interview, and take testimony from witnesses, research legal issues, assist in the litigation of administrative enforcement actions, prepare referrals for criminal prosecution, and participate in hearings and trials. The employee will further conduct related work as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (License, Education, Experience):
The minimum qualifications require graduation from an accredited law school with a J.D. Degree and either a license to practice law in Texas and membership in good standing with the State Bar of Texas; OR a license to practice law in another state, membership in good standing with that state’s bar, and a pending application for admission to the State Bar of Texas through reciprocity or another authorized admission process. The applicant must also be skilled in the operation of computers and the use of word processing, spreadsheet, communication, and internet applications. Strong interpersonal and writing skills required.
PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
The preferred qualifications are professional experience in law enforcement and the regulation of the securities industry or other financial services industries.
